i just checked and I have less than 4k on my tires, so I should be alright for the trip to Gunnison and back.

Yeah, I think I'd go the replace route. While some of the tire has tread left, these tires with minimal siping in the center tread are always unpredictable to me. Especially for long rides on the slab to get to the riding location. But don't throw it in the trash, MattB wants the garbage tire to put on his Honda.

Late to this party, was prepping feverishly for this party... it's already started for me, back on Friday. Currently in Indiana at Bill's. Bobby, as far as your tire goes, experience tells me that it will get you to Colorado, possibly minimal time in Colorado, but it's not getting you back home. They go faster in the end, don't ask me how I know that.

We're probably going to replace our Road 5s before the trip, then put them back on when we get back. Colorado will be around 4500 miles and the 5s already have around 600 on them now. That would mean that they would HAVE to get 5k and some reviews aren't getting that on the front. 5k is pretty much our max on anything. The PR4s were getting around 5500 so back to 4s for the trip.

There's a BMW dealer in Grand Junction. Would this be the closest shop if someone needed a street tire?

Jeff I don't think the two you mention handle street bikes.

Lee,, I talked to Davis and they said they do street bike stuff too. He said if someone scheduled ahead of time he could accommodate but walk-ins he can't guarantee anything

yes, true. I took my rear wheel to a local ElPaso bike shop to change the tire, only to have it so damaged to have it replaced. They admitted they did not have the adapter and had to order the wheel from BMW. Got it replaced at the BMW dealer here and all is well. Just in time as I leave here in a few days.

I think July we will enter Co. from the north. Maybe in September we'll stay at the Rim Rock before going to Gunnison.
