Lee, they had at least one fatality last year at the STOL events. They weren't really sanctioned or allowed per the rules of the FAA. There was at least one complaint filed against the organizers. They may have had a few planes in on Saturday and Sunday, but I saw just the one Cub sitting there on Friday afternoon. Last year on this weekend, the place had 20-30 ultra-lights and "full sized" STOL aircraft.

Another AHR in the books. We had five days of no rain and temps in the 70's on the way over to Arkansas! Day one ,BBQ in Cashiers, NC.
Western NC colors.
Cherohala Skyway.
Tellico Grains Bakery
This was supposed to be lunch on day two but they were closed.
We are interested in the history of areas we are riding through. This is the old Mammoth Springs Baptist Church.
If you are interested in bluegrass music, the homeplace of Bill Monroe was the place to be.
Wabash Cannonball Bridge. After you pass there is a smaller bridge and then a toll booth, but only 2 dollars.
Views from our room at Cave in Rock State Park.
Early morning fog obscured Cave in Rock view. We were able to read a good reminder of life's lessons.
Arkansas Hwy 61 arch, built in 1924.
Guess where we are.
Johnny Cash's well guarded boyhood home. Pay to enter, by tour only, etc etc. The gravel road we snuck down was NOT fun, but we got a free picture, dammit!

Walnut Ridge, AR. Their claim to fame is that the Beatles tried to sneak into town for a vacay.
Safety meeting at the Rock and Roll Hwy 67 Inn.
After a fun ride on the US 160 roller coasters, breakfast at Corn Fed Rascals, Alton, MO.
More fun, MO 19.
Alley Springs, MO.
Mammoth Springs, AR.
A bit of weather we are having today.
Lunch at the Ozark Cafe, Jasper, AR.
Some of us went shopping.
Refined Hooligans.
The next day.

Our usual parking area was taken. When parking, avoid grease fans on a windy day.
Bill uses fresh, new oil. Bam!
And no, the cat wasn't on the menu.
Swinging bridge, Mountain View, AR.
Heading home during rush hour.
A slice of German Chocolate pie to go from Sweet South Bakery, Harrisburg, AR.
Welcome to Twist, AR.
Always check your surroundings before entry.
A bit of weather we are having today.
Guess where we are. Home of the Swampers.
Home.
And that was that. Filling up for the 10 miles to home. Was great to see everyone. Don't go away now, we might want to do this again!

Your photo diary is great! Makes me want to go to the AHC. I know, you said we should come when we were in Maggy Valley. It looks down home and that appeals to an Indiana farm boy. I really hope you plan to publish a list of the scenic routes and stops that you know.

Bob, come on down! Hopefully we can be in Jasper next year but wherever, it will be fun. Our stops tend to be what we can find on Google or from other people's travels. We stopped doing Interstate a few years ago and finally, in only three years, we've seen a lot of America. Sadly a lot of small town Americana is going away, but there's still enough out there to make back roads interesting.

The other day I asked Ken at Yellville if we should avoid Turkey Trot if we return next year.
He said he makes more money off us and we're less work.
Most of his Trot customers only stay 1 night compared to our 4.
We require less work because we require less cleaning. When someone checks out they deep clean the room and even clean the windows and the heat/air filter.
If we go back to Yellville we'll stay a extra day again for the Saturday activities.

Wildbears, like Tim said, we all use the Pig Trail as a connector to get from one good road to another. If there were no traffic, it would be fine. However, for sport-bikes, there are better roads around. If I was on an H-D or Goldwing with a trailer, I guess the Pig Trail would be challenging enough.
