I had to look up Turkey Trot. Nothing to do with running around dressed as a turkey

The Yellville Turkey Trot is an annual festival held in Yellville, Arkansas, on the second weekend in October that features a variety of events, such as a parade, a turkey calling contest, and live music. It is historically known for its controversial "turkey drop," where a turkey was dropped from a low-flying plane. However, the live drop was officially stopped in 2018 due to concerns for the birds' well-being.
      Festival highlights
      • Events: The festival includes a parade, live entertainment, a National Turkey Calling Contest, and a lip sync contest.
      • Pageants: There is also a "Miss Turkey Trot/Miss Drumsticks Pageant".
      • Community and tradition: The event has been held since the mid-1940s and is a major community gathering.

      The Turkey drop controversy
      • Past tradition: For many years, a live turkey was dropped from a low-flying plane and the crowd would chase it.
      • Recent changes: The practice ended in 2018 due to animal welfare concerns.
      • Continued event: Despite the end of the turkey drop, the broader festival continues to be held annually.
