I expected him to at least give me a glancing blow on the right and I was prepared for the hit. Fortunately, all I felt was wind and with a final look in my right mirror, I saw him upright against the guardrail. Not sure if he actually went down but with his trajectory, I do not see how he could have avoided the guardrail. It did spook me for the rest of the ride and my mind kept replaying the incident. I think that my experience in this event kept us both alive. If I had pulled right to avoid, then chances are I would not be here to report this.

Amen Jim. It's weird to feel both lucky and unlucky at the same time. You clearly handled it the best way you could but that's the stuff of night sweats.

Just glad it's a video we're dissing and not what could have happened. We saw some really bad riding on the Cherohala yesterday. I'm not sure who was the worst, cruisers with no idea what's behind them or sportbikes with no apparent regard for what might be in front of them. Glad it was a near miss Jim !!

Had the same thing happen to me last summer. Coming around a tight curve while riding around a local reservoir, two bicyclists were coming the opposite way and the second rider was in my lane! I managed to evade him but he lost control and went down. No cell service at that location so I offered to make a call after making sure rider was ok. He had just a little bit of road rash but was mostly experiencing shock. That event woke me up and that rider probably needed fresh underwear.

Very lucky there. Thankfully you weren't hit. Did anyone go back to see how bad the accident was? Anything in the news about if?

It's certainly why some of my dirt riding buddies have given up riding on the street altogether. At least out in the woods I usually have no one to blame but myself.

Seems like a long time ago one of the i-BMW members was taken out on Deal's Gap by an oncoming rider going wide.

                Can't remember who.

No serious injuries as I recall.

Don't recall that one, but there was one that seemed to go off the road a lot all by himself.

He essentially got clipped knocking the bike out from underneath him.

I feel like I was along on this ride, I recall some of you talking about it, but this is the first that I laid eyes to the video. Indeed, that was CLOSE!

You where on this ride with us! I stopped to talk to Jim after the incident while the rest of you guys had romped on ahead. I don't blame Jim at all for calling it a day after that and he probably should have gone and bought a lottery ticket.

I just looked at that vid again. Did you notice the target fixation...guy started standing his bike up instead of making the corner. Luckily he missed his target!
