September 5 - 8, 2019 DGR Rally in Maggie Valley

So this year is going to be a little different. The following is the pertinent information on the main rally. What follows is a much larger week long event that we have been working on and would like to invite anyone interested to attend. Seeing as this site is about riding, and we don't want to exclude anyone, this is our first attempt at having three distinct riding venues. The week will begin with a two day track day event at VIR, followed by two days of dual sport adventures, and the the main body of the event by riding the streets around Maggie Valley and the surrounding areas to include Deals Gap, the Cherohala, and all of Western NC and Eastern TN that you can absorb. What follows in this post is the hotel information for the main body of the event.

DGR rally in Maggie Valley, North Carolina
Starts Thursday, September 5th and check out is Sunday, September 8th.

    Location: Maggie Valley Creekside Lodge.
Rooms are $109 plus tax per night for the Standard room with two queens or $119 plus tax per night for the Creekside Room with two queens. This is for 2 adults. You can also rent a jacuzzi room with one King bed for $149 a night. (yes, prices went up $10 this year)

For reservations please call 800-621-1260 and state you are with the DGR group
    Maggie Valley Creekside Lodge
    2716 Soco Road
    Maggie Valley, NC 28751
    http://creeksidelodge.com/

You can make a reservation online by making a special notation in the comments box that you are with our group. The hotel will contact you. We have blocked 10 rooms out of 40 total rooms so call and make your reservations! You can always cancel.

Making discounted reservations are good until August 13th and then special pricing is no longer available. Cancellation is good with a weeks notice, anything less than a week, they charge you for a night. The hotel has some other restrictions that will be passed along at the time you make your reservations (no pets, charges for stealing TV remotes, no smoking in rooms, etc.) There are a few secluded areas to smoke if you know what I mean. Ask to be close to the breezeway. This takes you down to the backside of the hotel where there are chairs, tables and a great place to hang out.

Hanging out in the parking lot is permitted as long as we are courteous to our neighbors and those who are lucky enough to rent rooms at the same time. If you have a drink please put it into a cup before putting it into yourself. There are a few charcoal grills available, some lounge chairs and an area behind the Creekside rooms to share. Overall, a very nice site.

Food and fuel are close. There are four restaurants within .5 miles. Three within .25 miles. Costs per plate range from an average of $10 to $20. There is a steak house where the costs may go up and breakfast is slightly cheaper. Beer can be bought across the street at a small grocery store and there are two liquor stores within 3 miles.

Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum is within walking distance as well.

Guarding the back end, seems like I was always in the back... way in the back. BillGsa and EricM were riding really great on their GS Tankers.

I do my best riding parked... thanks Jacque for the riding lesson.

The Shenandoah Valley from the BRP on the run home...

The Mighty K ran flawlessly the entire trip. Jargon turned me on to a Riser Plate mod for the rear suspension... called Beech and I received the parts in just a few short days...

I had the pleasure of riding with Jargon. He was having a hard time getting around, but as soon as he was onboard his GS, he cut a fine line through the Cherohola. Thanks, John.

The most impressive riding moment was DYL-Jim blowing past us at Mach 1 on his Panigale! It sounded like a cruise missile loping along at 1200 RPM.

It was really good to see an increasing turnout and who could have asked for better riding weather. Great planning Joe. Mf'er Ken it was super to see you and your H-D... sweet machine. Dale and Eddie, we will see you again next year.

Talking with BadBob about a possible K1300S in his near future... well I guess he went online that night and liked what he saw price wise. I think he has made his mind up.

Almost crashed on the way home at a BRP vista. Stopped to water down the bushes, took one step over the edge, it didn't look that steep. Frack me! Thought I was going to need to crawl all the way up from the Appomattox Court House. Definitely safer to ride than walk!

    Jargon and Jacque, take care.
See you next year and thanks to all. Ride on!!

Seriously, this is a great group of people. I appreciate the friendship extended by everyone I met. I enjoyed myself immensely and I am looking forward to the next gathering. I am even looking to add a k1300s to my stable at the recommendation of many. Hopefully, the brahma bull will not be too pissed.
Bob, pleasure to have met and talked to you. Since you live close we should meet up at the Gap and get a ride in. The better riding season approaches.
