I'd really like to thank MattB for putting this together. Here are the pertinent data for the trackday event. Needless to say, I've never been to one and I am looking forward to attending.
Virginia International Raceway (VIR)
Dates: September 2nd (North Course) and 3rd (Full Course)
Price: $440 for BOTH days -- Historically, they open up single day registration a couple weeks from the event date if it is not sold out.
Hosted By: Aaron Stevenson's Cornerspeed - Schools and Track Days for ALL Riders (** MattB: I've probably been to VIR 30 days since first being introduced to the track 11 years ago. In my opinion, Aaron and his staff put on one of the best motorcycle events at VIR. I'm defining best here as a group that manages things well, they work to maximize your track time and provide a great experience, and most importantly, they focus on SAFETY and draw a respectful group of people.)
Event Name: Mid-Atlantic Ducati Owners' Club Track Days | Fun Days at Virginia International Raceway
*NOTE: this is open to ALL makes/manufactures, not just Ducati
http://www.cornerspeed.net/2014/maddescr.php(** MattB: I'd recommend calling Aaron ahead to inquire on these)
- Back protector - Hard shell, sanctioned race organization approved. (i.e. Alpinestars, Dainese, Knox, Bohn, etc.). (** MattB: I have one extra that somebody can use if needed, just ask me ahead of time)
- Leather boots or race approved boots (8 inches tall). Cordura hiking boots/ankle boots are not acceptable. (** MattB: I would surmise most of you have proper riding boots, if it doubt, post up a picture)
- Gloves - good condition, gauntlet style with closures.
- Helmet Requirements: Snell, BSI, DOT, or ECE R22.05 approved helmet (high impact tested) less than 5 years old. (** MattB: while I love this organization, my FAVORITE at VIR, they are absolutely steadfast that your helmet be MANUFACTURED less than 5 years ago. I'm sure it's a liability thing, but check your helmet, don't just trust the fact that you bought it two years ago)
- BEGINNER group requirements/Bike Preparation:
- Bikes must have oil filter safety wired. (** MattB: this is very easy, ask/I'll post additional details)
- Liquid cooled bikes must run water only or racing approved coolant only, no anti-freeze. The racing approved coolant must be approved by WERA or CCS. Motul's product MoCool is approved by both CCS and WERA. (** MattB: it's easiest to just drain your coolant into a clean container/jug, before winter you can put it back into your bike)
- Remove mirrors, tape over all glass and lights AND tape over the speedometer. You do not need the speedometer on the racetrack. It is an unsafe distraction.
- Tires must be Sport or Race compound with good tread depth. New tires are recommended.
- Side stand engine kill switch must be operational and will be inspected at Tech. If the sidestand engine kill switch fails, you will be required to zip-tie the kickstand in the up position.
That covers the MANDATORY dress/bike prep. It would probably be wise to read the full set of "Rider and Bike Requirements" here: http://www.cornerspeed.net/2014/requirements.php
MattB: Finally, to those that have never done a track day and find this list intimidating, please contact me, I recall what it was like preparing for my first couple events and would be very happy to help you.
