SGR is just a little over 2 weeks away, and it looks like we'll have the best turnout in several years... it should be epic! If anyone wants to attend but needs a room at the Timberline Lodge, I have two extra rooms reserved, but they'll only be available for another week. If anyone is interested, let me know ASAP!Comment

Got a text from Just Joe. He's in Nebraska and already passed by Iowa
Leaving his truck in SE Wyoming, then taking in the Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon before SGR.

Heading out early on the 2'nd to meet up with Daryl and on to Oregon where we meet Victory , Jim and a couple of others . off to Northern California on the third and Arnold on the 4'th . Looking forward to seeing all the east coasters in Arnold . Have attended Sgr since 2011 and there have been as few as 3 of us and as many as 20 . This year is looking to be the best turnout in quite a few years .Comment

A lot of water over the dam since the last post. We came, we saw, we conquered. I got back home to NC this evening. Around 7300 miles all told. The R6 tires made the whole trip with miles to spare.
It was a great group at SGR, the best in years, according to Charlie. Nearly as many Easterners as Westerners. A great place to have a rally.I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.Comment

must have happened late in the day cus 6 of us came over Ebbetts from east to west mid afternoon and didn't see anything . there's 2 or 3 every year that don't think the warnings apply to them .Last edited by Pwoodhouse; 09-16-2024, 09:24 PM. -
It was when I passed through there. 6am or thereabouts. I guess they had it cleared up by mid-afternoon.

We were out West this past June trying for a second time to further explore Idaho. The first time in July of 2023 we were forced out due to the Moose Mountain fire. This June we had to re-route due to snow over Lolo Pass. Third time's the charm and we'd get to do SGR. Something we had wanted to do for years but work always got in the way. New tires, a fresh oil change and we are headed West again. As usual to go West we headed North.
First stop, Cave City, KY. This is located on Main Street. Free cuddles within.
Even going North we have to cross the Big Muddy. Stay tuned .....

Further West the road got interesting.
Third time's the charm. Our room was right on the Salmon River next to Moose Mountain, North Fork, ID.
Well at least they're not in the road. In a blind curve. Bolting toward us at blazing speed. Like last time.
Lolo Pass. No snow.
Spiral Highway, Lewiston ID. Idaho's curviest road. It was awesome and we had it all to ourselves!
But Washington 129 was even more gooder.
Filling up in Enterprise, OR.
Lake Abert, OR. We managed to keep the road kill out of the picture.

Breakfast stop in Northern California. It was the only place open in miles and miles. They sell worms.
Overnight stop in Virginia City before getting new tires at Sierra BMW in Sparks the next day. It's like a western Chimney Rock, NC.
We're at the 3500 mile point of our trip. We have everything we need to travel for 24 days with what you see here on the bike.
Headed toward Sonora Pass, Monitor Pass and Ebbett's Pass. We were in this area 30+ years ago.
On the subject of rocks in the road, if you can count them you can ignore them.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is beautiful and worth a visit.

Tonopah, NV. Just as we were leaving the brewery across the street, MattB and Brent just happened to cruise by. How weird was that? (no pic of them though)
Breakfast the next day was out of this world. Little A'Le'Inn near Area 51.
We met an interesting chap further down the road at a gas stop. Jerry was out riding his 1979 GoldWing. He is originally from iowa but now lives in Dumas TX. We gave him a Riderspace card. hope to hear from him.
Jerry had a fine looking sammich so I went in to get one for us. This was Susan's very first gas station pre-packaged sammich.
