Look at the number of banishment bars Doug has under his name. He is working his way there and you are not far behind!

This is part of the problem though. You should be trying to prevent escalation. If Doug jumps off a cliff are you going to do that as well? Don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question.

That's called Reputation Level and is configurable in your profile under Account. It is a combination of the number of posts plus the number of likes and then you subtract the number of flags a person has and it provides a Reputation. It can be turned off. Mine, because of the activity level I have should be almost full. I'll turn it on.

Well said indeed Wes, not much interest in politics or reality tv however you want to call it.

You want me to watch/read the news somewhere other than my motorcycle site?

In all seriousness, I actually enjoyed the political discord, but I'm a different individual. Politics, as divisive as they are, are a real part of our lives. When reading opposing political views on a random news article, I'm prone to simply think "damn, there sure are a lot of stupid ass people out there with their heads far up their ass". When reading differing opinions from "friends", I'm much more open to thinking, "seriously, Joe feels that way? Maybe I'm missing something here". But that's just me.

We respectfully asked that folks refrain from two (2) whole topics. That leaves about 50 million. Should be enough.

Hey Greg, I get what you're saying. But you may have missed the point. The point is that we don't want to be the cops who are sitting in your mirror waiting for you to cross the line. We are asking that we not be in that position in the first place. The intent is not to stifle speech or thought, but to not have to get to that place.

In person, it's easy for two people to have a private conversation in a public place. Two or more friends can have a healthy debate without worrying about offending others, because in the physical world there are physical barriers, even if it is just space. But here in the virtual world, it is all public. There are no barriers and two or more friends debating in public can quickly escalate to something it was not meant to be. While we can discuss the rights and wrongs of people taking offense when they are not included in a conversation, in a forum such as this it is ALL public and everyone is included in the conversation.

I guess the intent is to remind folks to police themselves, be polite in polite company, debate your friends when it is appropriate and guide the conversation in a more positive light. Or not. Just please, please, please don't make it so that someone has to be in the position to be the thought police.

I had a funny reply to the 50 million list, but on second thought I better keep quiet Just joking, thanks for the follow-up.

My memory is crap, I'm bound to fail this test, it's been what, 4 days since I first saw this thread and I had to go back and see what topic (outside politics) was off the table again. Certainly when you allow a yobbo like me to join the community, surely you realize that shit is bound to go sideways. I will try my best to consider the rules for the sake of others, but it should be noted that I try to follow speeding laws as well but have fallen short occasionally.
