Karl, if going with a used GSA, find a 2018 model. The gearbox is better.
The R1200 GS/A is a great touring platform without the "urgency" of an XR. IMHO. You can carry a LOT and it just eats up the miles in comfort. The XR can be delegated to this role but you will get tired.

Doug, have you been on an XR yet? You really need to.

I'm with you Doug. No XR for me. But a R or RR would be nice. Or a Tuono if they would make them in husky boys sizes.

That's why I have a good mechanic on retainer. Alas, I can only ride bikes designed for the "larger" fellow.

After much deliberation I have decided to wait a year and see if the upgraded engine from the RR makes it way to the XR.

The GS would have replaced the XR

Oh NO! That would never do, the R1200/1250 will never be an XR. And you are right Karl, come 2020, if they brought in the new power plant, I can only imagine.

I haven't ridden the 1250 yet but did give some serious thought to trading up. What stopped me was
the time it would take to swap all my extras over to the new bike. They offered to do it but I don't think
they realize all the hidden stuff I have on the bike.
I definitely wouldn't go back to the previous model GS. The shift assist, cruise control and ride modes
                              are perfect.
I would like a digital speedo, I know I can use the Nav-V as one but I like to see the road. I do however
look at the lower right corner to see the speed rather than the speedometer. It's easier for me.
As for passing.... if I get behind a line of cars, I just take a dirt road.
