Jumbo Visma and Quick Step merger? Wow. Let's see where Roglic winds up. If on Ineos, it could get exciting.

Thanks for the update. Hadn't heard.

Chris Horner has an intersting take on it, as does Johann Brunyl.

Horner and Lantern Rouge are both good and informative. Lantern Rouge guys speculate more, but are good. Johann knows nuts and bolts of what it takes behind the scenes. I think I'd watch Horner, then Lantern Rouge. I'm a bit nerdy and, thus, found Johann's longervideo interesting, too.

        One ride, 3 events...

        1. The Crash. The first event was a rider that was two bikes in front of me crashed for no apparent reason. The rider ahead of me and behind him went over the wheels of the crashed bike and then crashed himself. The rider of the first bike said it felt like his wheels hit something invisible and he lost control. Looking at the crashed bike, the handlebars were completely turned 90 degrees to the left suggesting a loose handlebar stem caused the crash. No broken bones but some deep road rash for both riders. I was lucky there were no passing cars as I swerved out into the lane to avoid the crash.

        2. The irate motorcyclist. Many of the riders in this Tuesday night club ride don't ride in single file and ride way out in the lane. They probably feel this protects them from passing vehicles that then have to wait until oncoming traffic is clear before they can pass. I'm guessing this motorcyclist was tired of dealing with this every week and he let the riders ahead of me know with explicit language.

        3. The dog event. This initiated ahead and out of view. Apparently a dog had run up a homeowner's driveway on the other side of the road but did not go out onto the pavement. A number of the riders got into a shouting match with the owner and threatened him. When I got there they were face to face and ready to fight. The dog owner repeatedly threatened to get his gun and shoot the cyclists. They eventually separated and we rode on.

Nice picture. IF I had a bucket list, this famous chapel would be on it. It would be tied with the Sistine Chapel for the category: "places of worship."

One of George Hincapie's bikes is now on display there. It got in because of all the record 17 Tour de France races he was in.

Hincapie and Horner are my two favorite American riders. That includes Armstrong and Lemond.

Rode yesterday to Buckeye Lake under clear blue skies and the company of tall corn rustling in the wind. The latter was strong enough at one point to roll a walnut down the road. A little over 30 miles for the afternoon.

Our Wednesday night rides are getting jammed up against darkness now. We took some riders on a quick 19=mile route that concludes with a little over 3 miles of 2-lane highway. They were concerned about safety and visibility. They were exhilarated to discover what the veterans already knew, but didn't share. Once we headed north to the endpoint (an historic local restaurant), it was downhill and downwind. We had 18mph straight south winds with gusts to 30. It was simple to average 30+ on that segment. It was SWEEEET. The new riders, who are 20-somethings are strong and they loved it.

Back in the day when we lived in Columbus, there were two guys that we rode with that did a ride from there to Lake Erie in four hours. They were group A level riders but also had a strong tailwind the whole way. It's always best to ride into the wind for the first half of a back and forth ride. And maybe to turn around when you start getting an exercise "high".

Hey! I improved on hills tonight without training. On our group ride, instead of my really cool 1990 Eddy Merckx XL-Leader, I rode a nice 8-year old titanium Enigma. This semi-custom titanium bike climbs like a rocket, even with me doing the work. It's far stiffer and about 6 pounds lighter than my steel Merckx. Weight makes a difference for sure, but so does stiffness.

Well, it's true, everything just seems to work better if it's stiff.

Weight does make a difference in climbing and acceleration off the line. However on more level roads, not so much. I've had trouble keeping up on our local club rides with many women that are 50-100 lbs overweight but in great cardiovascular condition. I usually catch them in the hills though. And yes, titanium is the gold standard in my book.

It could prove to be a great race. Roglic is my personal favorite, even though he is maybe a half step behind the others.

The 53,000 meters of climbing is equivalent to going up Mt. Everest from sea level 5 times.
