We were standing around that sign with our bikes last September thinking we're real adventure riders when this 80 year old couple in a Toyota Camry pull up and ask us if we'd like for them to take our photo:Originally posted by K1DUDE View Post

Mike doesn't look so goofy in person! He is getting his free drink, that went with his free entree at the Gunnysack. Cafe. The owner on every Thursday comps the meal of retired veterans. Mike, of course, served in the USMC. (It shows.) But, it was a nice touch. Mike was pleased, as were Lee, Deb, and I, when the owner brought us a huge fresh strawberry shortcake just because we were taking care of Mike!

Home again, home again, though at one point that was in doubt.
Dale and I rolled out early Thursday, like 6:15, backtracking on our route out, which was US 50 from eastern Kansas on to Gunnison. We were trying to cover more miles per day so that I'd make it home in 3 days instead of 4, and Dale 2 days instead of three. On Friday we split up in western Missouri. Dale kept going on the route we took out, Missouri SR 32, a great road of mostly sweepers through the Mark Twain National Forest. I swung south to Springfield to cross the state on US 60.
That afternoon I saw a storm up ahead, so I suited up and kept going. The storm was worse than I anticipated. Strong cross winds, and the rain was like riding through a waterfall. My glasses and visor both fogged up, and it quickly got so the only thing I could see was the white line on the side of the road. Without realizing it I followed the line down an exit ramp. Luckily I was going slowly enough that when I got to the bottom of the ramp I was able to see the stop sign and get it stopped before I plowed through the intersection. I waited out the storm under an overpass then went on, but I had to stop again further up the road, this time before I was blinded by the conditions. That was the hairiest thing I can recall ever doing on a bike.
I did make it home last night about 6, which allows me to laze around the house today. Well worth it. And Dale reports that he made it home late Friday night.
Thanks to Billy and crew for setting the rally up again. I saw some old faces and a few new ones. Always a good time.
