I hate hearing these things, it hurts a small business like the motel. One of the reasons
I stopped planning the SSR was because people bailed at the first sign of a chance of
rain.
I'm not going because VT protocol is that I'd have to self quarantine for 14 days after. I
can't work from home and things are just starting to open up here and allow in home
professional services.

It's a bad position to be in for a hotel/motel. I was talking to a motel about a rally and asked for a discount and a block of rooms. The manager was having none of it. She said that she would do it for hikers, kayakers, car clubs, or just about anybody but motorcyclists. She said riders make great guests when they commit to coming. But the first sign of bad weather they bail leaving the hotel in a bad spot. So, they get no leeway. Needless to say, I did not commit to using that hotel.

Looking at the local Roanoke TV forecast it looks like typical BRPR weather. Not too bad during the day but chance of thunderstorms late in the afternoon.
From the local NBC affiliate:


We'll be in the low to mid 80s Thursday afternoon with only scattered activity. Most of that will be east of the Parkway.

Come Friday and Saturday, most of the rain we see will be set off during the afternoon and evening.

As the weekend has progressed, I realize that I got snookered as regards the weather. I was really looking forward to some excellent riding and seeing the gang. I guess I should stop looking at the weather forecast for future events.

Many years ago we were boaters with friends. If there was rain in the forecast we wouldn't
go out on the lake. We missed a lot of good weekends. One weekend my friend said, "Let's
just plan on going and if it rains we'll deal with it." We never missed a weekend after that.
