It may depend on how you feel about shredding perfectly good tires.

I know a shortcut. Probably better bring the Triumph! (Yes, the K bike is a rockstar in Texas)

Wes, regardless of which bike be sure you have new tires. As Tyson mentioned these absolutely glorious Tejas roads will shred them, but like JJ, in a good way.

Watch out for that left hook!

Thanks for the tips all. If this happens I'll likely truck the bike down as my wife may come. Don't think she's quite ready for a 24 hour bike ride yet. Also as Tim accurately mentioned weather is unpredictable in April. I remember going to Louisiana to start fishing season in April and running through some nasty stuff.

Susan and I stopped at a Cracker Barrel in Vicksburg Mississippi for breakfast on the way to THCR some years back. The weather forecast that morning was for severe weather. They were so sure of tornadoes that schools were closing at 11:00 am. When we were leaving the cashier was practically begging Susan to stay and not go on with me. When we dropped onto I-20 a green Honda Civic blew past at 100 mph. I dropped in behind and the only time we slowed was for a highway patrolman that had a car pulled over. As we slowed a highway patrol went by in the opposite direction, then we were back up to 100. I stayed about a 1/4 mile back. And if anyone is curious a 2007 K1200S will go 213 miles on one tank of gas at 100 mph, but there better damn well be gas before you get to 214.

We never did see a storm that day.

That's just 2 hours and 8 minutes to do 340km and burn 19L of fuel.

I've dropped in behind cars like that before and it's amazing how comfortable a k bike is running 100 consistently.

We would get shot here for doing that. They even have planes in the air checking for speeders.

Don't worry! Adult supervision will be available in Bandera. Maybe Terlingua, too, but that remains to be seen!

I don't do Facebook and can't see all the info but spotted this post from September.
When I try the phone number it's disconnected.

If you have facebook see if you can get more info.
Maybe things will change in the spring.

I would have loved to have had better timing to attend this gathering but I'm going to be there in the area in the next couple of weeks. I'm just hoping that Central Texas has emerged from the Stone Age and has potable water and electricity (or that they've figured out how to make smoked brisket without those things). This is my first time in the region and I'd love to hear what y'all's favorite don't-miss things are there (eats, routes, etc).

I'm headed to Georgia on Monday to catch up with a friend and we're going to go ride the Natchez Trace from Nashville to Natchez, then over through Sam Houston NF to my daughter's home in the Woodlands. From there, we'll head in to Hill Country for a couple of days before running down to South Padre Island/Brownsville for an overnight; then home routing along the gulf coast to Mobile before heading back to N. Georgia.

Let me know if there's any intel I can send back for you guys that are going in April? I've heard that part of 337 between Medina and Vanderpool might be still closed due to a bridge construction.

Post #9 shows a map of the closed road. 470 is a nice road so you can take that.
Catch 335 and 336 while in that same area. For high speed sweepers take 55 up to Rocksprings.
Leaky might work for a overnight town.
We have stayed at the Leaky Inn a couple times and liked it. They have a mix of older redone rooms, new rooms and cabins. They built some new cabins last year.

If you need to send tires ahead Steve can mount and balance them for you.
Working on bikes is a part time business for him. They're 5 miles north of Blanco.

We usually rent their guest house. They also have a cabin with a outside toilet and shower.
Same thing, part time business so they do not answer the cell phones right away.

Here's pictures from 2019 showing the three places I mentioned.
