Mike and Tyson made it home safely after about a 150 miles in the rain/drizzle. Mike made Bellevue Saturday night. I made it to Wichita Falls and my little granddaughters. Sunday, I took the LONG way home through historic western Oklahoma. Saw some new stuff after being an Okie for a long time. Got home well chilled about 8:30.
I thoroughly enjoyed this THCR. The accommodations, restaurants, bars, roads and motorcycle friends were all great. A BIG THANKS to Curt (and Gary) for scoping out Bandera a few years ago. (And Joe, you deserve a small thanks, too, for starting and maintaining this site. Sincerely.)Comment

Bluebonnets and "Mexican hats," my favorite Texas Wildflowers. Thanks for the photos. It is my opinion that this year the stalks of blossoms on the bluebonnets are thicker and taller than in most years. In the winter of '76-77 another long cold wet spell resulted in what many still consider one of the greatest blooms in memory. I was a geologist in South Texas then and hiked a lot of the area between Laredo, Hebbronville and Freer in those days. I felt badly about stepping on so many flowers but the ground was carpeted with them.
This year has had similar conditions and the results are amazing. -
We didn't see many Blue Bonnets this year.
A frost is supposed to be good but the hard freeze for a few days seemed to hurt.

Well, I heard through the grapevine that I DID WIN. But, I was asleep in my room at the time and a new rule was implemented about being present to win. Then Curt said that a camera was too complicated for Tyson to operate anyway, so my number was tossed and a new one was drawn.
Unfortunately, Curt was correct! It went to a better recipient.

We started the Boogie Back to Texas trip on March 25th, 12 states, 27 days, one set of tires at GOAZ BMW in Scottsdale, 8059 miles. Day 1 is usually uneventful, just making miles to start the trip. Four hours from home we stopped for lunch at Mr. P's in Ellijay GA. While we ate a few severe storm and a tornado or three came through the area. Detour time, not because of the forecast but because of the full size trees ripped apart on the road. This is 12 miles from our lunch spot. if we hadn't of stopped for lunch we would have been, as JamesTexas once said, "Right in the middle of that shit.".
Quirky stops were our plans. This is junkyard Burgers in Guntown, MS just off the Natchez Trace.

Speaking of sculptures, "East Meets West", Tulsa, OK. Pictures do not do this one justice. The detail is amazing. Speaking of justice, we managed to not be guest stars on the First 48.

Tim and Susan,
Will Rogers was one of the most famous men in the World. He wrote a column that was published in thousands of newspapers. He was in many movies, both silent and talkies. He performed in New York City for about 10 years for the Ziegfeld Follies. He entertained Presidents and kings. He brought polo to California and his large Southern California ranch in the Malibu Hills is now a wonderful green area in a sea of pricey subdivisions. Not bad for a Cherokee boy who was kicked out of every decent elementary and upper school his parents sent him to.
His father was a Southern cavalry officer in the Civil War. It is he, not Will himself, for whom Rogers County, Oklahoma is named.
Ironically, he loved aviation and died along with Oklahoma's famous pilot Wiley Post in an accident in northern Alaska. Even more ironically, Oklahoma City's two airports are named after these two guys who died in an airplane crash: Will Rogers World Airport and OKC's Wiley Post Airport.

A relative of Susan's on her mother's side. He's still behind bars.
Back in the 1920's the air mail service had concrete arrows on the ground for pilots to follow. We didn't find it due to the fence, but this was the spot.
Every family needs one from time to time.

We and other hooligans were stuck in a traffic backup.
We rode to the front because the view's better there. When they opened up the road we put the spurs to her.
