Finally used the Sena's out on the road this weekend with my son.

The clarity of the intercoms was good while in range, better clarity than my older FRS setup. That said, the "range" seemed nowhere close to the advertised 2km (1.2 miles), I'd suggest that it's half that at best, probably closer to a third realistically whereas my FRS units would get us about a true mile, even in the mountains.

Before the next test I want to modify the setting for the VOX sensitivity, my sons mic was picking up on wind noise too easily, leaving the intercom connection open and effectively muting my radar detector sound which really killed it for me.

Still on the fence about these, but still many tweaks to do before calling it a success/failure.

Matt, are you using helmet speakers or ear buds? Ear buds are the way to go! Above say 50mph it's very hard to understand the intercom with speakers, with ear buds especially noise cancelling buds even at 70 you can hear clearly. Music obviously sounds better too & you can turn the volume down so the amplifier isn't working so hard.

The only way to go. I can't hear anything with the external speakers, good for parking lots only. I use custom earplugs and they are fantastic!

Ditto. Have tried speakers from time to time but always stay with earbuds. Started using them around 2003-4 and even then far better than speakers?

Also, i read somewhere that the Sena is not waterproof. WTF! That will never do. Rain is mandatory when I ride, or so it seems.

Not even close. I ride in all kinds of weather. The rain has never affected my Sena's.

Ditto! I rode ~350 miles in 50 Deg Rain and my Sena 20S Evo worked great the whole time.

Joe, everything that you say may be true, but Sena advises that they are NOT waterproof and water damage would not be considered warranty.

Exactly. I've been in some crazy storms with my Kenwood and Autocom. All good. That Sena is a tad expensive. I'd hate to have a problem in the rain.

I can't imagine having any of you hillbillies talking to me while I'm riding.

My Sena says it will pair up with other brands. We'll have to get that shiny new bike out on 14 one day and see.

Only if you go slow otherwise I'll only see you at the start and finish.

Just pair your phones then you have much better range than FRS (essentially unlimited) when you absolutely need it.
