And all we get is a picture of a signOriginally posted by wildbears View PostAnother Florida scene. Canaveral National Seashore, Apollo Beach section. I ride the length of this beach road when we are down there. About 4 years ago there was a whole family of older and younger adults, about 10 feet before the sign, huddled against the front of their car that was parked on the side of the road. They were all completely nude. The car hid their lower front parts.. They had apparently stopped for pictures. Approaching from a distance, I assumed the women had on swim suit tops. However getting closer, it was clear that all of them were totally naked with the women having tan marks.

Just Wondering About Weight Control And Caloric Intake While Cycling
Most recommend carb replacement during and after extended exercise. For example, when the ride is longer than 2 hrs.
However, recent thought is exercise does little for weight loss as the body shuts down after a given number of calories are used. And this shutdown occurs whether or not the calories are burned by exercising or just sitting around. (This is based on a study comparing calorie use in a tribe where the men actively hunt on a daily basis and the women stay back performing sedentary tasks. Note this may not be an accurate assumption as women who do house work are as fit as those who go to the gym 3 times a week. The latter data is from a recent study of nurses in Framingham, MA.).
Could it be that weight loss from exercise might require skipping the replacement carbs or even purposely "bonking"? This could increase fat burning and promote ketosis. With the ketosis resulting in decreased appetite and less caloric intake. A Win-Win.
In any event, weight loss requires decreasing calories consumed relative to calories used. And this goes against the grain of many cycling advice sites that aggressively push constant "fueling".Last edited by wildbears; 01-25-2025, 02:01 PM.

Just noticed this belonged to Marshall "Major" Taylor. See --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_Taylor
One of the first clubs named in his honor was formed in Columbus, Ohio, and is still active. I often see them riding as a group on local bike trails.
