The face of pain, indeed. His effort up that last climb was outstanding. He distanced everybody else . . . sans one.

And he considered it his best lifetime effort, backed up with technical data.

I Googled it,"Loading in Pickup" turns out it's Japanese.

Crap. I have one just like it and got it first.

      Circle of Death....

As in "A late, almost inevitable acceleration from Pogacar saw Vingegaard distanced at the death,"

The stage of the 1910 Tour de France in the Pyrenees that included the cols: Peyresourde, Aspin, Tourmalet and Aubisque, was named the "Circle of Death". Now the hardest mountain stage in the Tour takes on this name. A one-day race of great prestige. Some classics date back to the 19th century.

DON'T USE Castrol, Professional Quicklube on your chain

This is perhaps the worst lube you can use on your bike chain.

I got this for my inline skates wheel bearings. I've used it several times on my bike chain.

It attracts road grime like a magnet. To the extent that the rear derailleur would not shift.

Chris Horner swears by WD-40! The guys around here laugh at tha. I'e been using it exclusively for several months. Seems to be fine and does not attract grunge. Can only testify as to its usage in the dry.

        Creaking Noise When Pedaling

This can be due to a squeaky saddle. To diagnose, stand on the pedals when pedaling and see if the noise goes away.

My saddle is currently doing this. Thought it was the crank/BB.

Sprayed lube into junctions of saddle rails and their insertion sites fore and aft. Creaking gone.

Mine noise was from a worn out shoe. The cleat would move inside the sole.

I've had squeaky shoes before. Not sure where to lubricate those.

Maybe. Heard about it on The Move, JB2. They said the Citroen's only had 2 HP. Checked and it turned out that back then they had 18 HP. If it is a legend, and like most urban legends, it seems believable. Or at least you want to believe it.

Man, I had a chance to go with a group (Cedar Valley Cyclists) and didn't take the offer. I will probably regret it. Looks like fun.

Shimano STI Dual Shifter Cables Prone to Breaking

The current generation of Shimano STI shifters are prone to cable breaks and jams. This is because of the sharp bends the cables follow through the internal housing of the "brifters".

Breakage often leads to an internal tangle of broken-off-cable wires that require removal of the bottom plate after removal of its attachment screw.

NOT a road side fix if the wire fragments jam the shifting mechanism. And more so if you don't have a spare cable onboard.

This is a known and well described issue with these components. It occurs more often on the right side due to the greater use of the rear derailleur.

It is currently recommended that these cables be renewed yearly.

BTW, my 42 year old Shimano 600 STI group set is still working and has never failed.

In retrospect, the rear derailleur was not shifting crisply prior to the complete break and failure of the shifting cable. Maybe this was due to individual strands of the cable breaking and jamming before the entire cable let loose.

I think it was the summer of 2016 when I bought it. Rolled over 10,000 miles on it yesterday.

That's cool. Obviously you are a boxer rider. Is the EMT an actual pedal biker?

Leaving Winterset Wednesday morning. The last time we left Winterset in 2019 the riders were estimated at 40,000.
Yesterday numbers were probably half that and the ride was more relaxing.
