"One unexpected finding is the new ergonomics allow more power output without a discernible increase in effort. When spinning on the trainer, this translates to dropping down one or two smaller cassette cogs (8 speed; 11-32t)."

There is more quadriceps soreness with the new saddle position. Most likely these are being used more and responsible for the increased power output.

Thanks for the detailed write-up, Wildbears. Interesting about the power output. But, I'm glad you argue that there is no magic formula and that each saddle and rider need to be adjusted individually.

I'm following a guy who's riding through Mexico and he posted this. It looks a little bit dangerous to me.

I couldn't ride this course at ANY speed, even with plenty of walking!

interesting. The UCI is really pretty autocratic.

          Straightening Chain Rings

The chainring nuts on my Campy crankset were factory secured with red Loctite. After heating the entire crankset to 200 degrees Fahrenheit in the oven, the nuts/bolts were removed using the Park-Tool nut wrench and an allen wrench.

Tested the rings on a flat surface and there were only slight bends. Same direction for both rings. Trued by using the edge of the workshop table with half of the rings on and half off and applying firm hand pressure. Rechecked multiple times to prevent over correction.

          Remounted with red Loctite.

Temps were 36 to 38F during the ride. 20 to 25 mph winds with light fog making it damp.

On the wind I had 5 miles of headwind and 5 miles of tail wind. The rest was a crosswind.
On the headwind I could only manage 7 to 10 mph.

Nice pie tables. We used to have those at the Holbrook Kentucky Homecoming every fall. My maternal grandmother grew up in the area and had donated money to rebuild the church after a lightning strike burned it down. Church, dinner, and gospel quartet music. I'd try to get my great uncle out in the cemetery to tell tales about the ancestors buried there. One of his brothers died from pneumonia after trying to ford Eagle Creek by horseback during the winter and falling in

Lee.that looks like a great ride. I hate winds when riding, but here in Oklahoma it is to be expected and tolerated. Iowa is probably the same.

Pete, I'd love to ride with you on those slightly hilly trails of Florida. We will deal with the wind if it comes up!

Saturday morning Coffee Ride. Blustery and 40F. Only 2 of us rode. 2 others got out of bed for coffee with us at the end of the ride. Rode the gravel bike and suffered. 18 miles, meh.

Mike, Oklahoma, being a very modern State with a Statehood date of 1907, was settled after the more primitive and backward States, Much of Oklahoma is defined by Township and Range, with mile-square sections platted out therein. Most section lines, are gravel roads that are due straight on the cardinal directions. Terrain, rivers, or other obstacles, both natural or man made (communities) disrupt this grid in many places. Also, the Indian lands that survived still in 1907, were not laid out like that, although they are still identified by Township and Range. My county, and the counties to the west and south, are laid out in grids. Osage County and Creek county are both Indian country and do not have the grids. However, where ever possible, the primary roads and highways DO follow along a section line.

There is LOTS of good gravel riding in this area. The Strava route that appears on the link are indeed correctly portrayed. Some of that ride was gravel but, the majority was paved.

I was looking at the elevation changes in the link. Now I see it's really only a couple hundred feet of change.
1907, so you remember when Oklahoma became a state? ( I kid)

My Choctaw grandmother was 9-years old when Oklahoma became a State. She was born and raised in Ti, Indian Territory of the Choctaw Republic.. She said the other girls and she ran around singing a ditty: "Ti is not IT anymore; but, IT's OK!" People dressed up for the day.
