Trust me I want to get to VIR but it is really difficult to haul myself down there the same days that an event is going on with the org I ride with at Palmer which is 20 minutes from my house.

I haven't been to the DGR since 2014 - I rode with Jargon that year - I'm still in therapy from that ride!!!

I truly want to make it to a rally this year - I have to get past a few issues first.

SO Bruce, I think you gave the K 1300S away. So what did you get in its place?

I did and I still have not replaced it. Looking back should have kept it.

We did a drive by last weekend. Creekside had a huge Harley gathering going on, getting them ready for us I suppose.
BTW, the Maggie Valley restaurant next door has excellent home cooked meals.

So if I wanted to run up to VIR on Monday or Tuesday to watch you guys tear up the track, would that be possible? What time do the festivities begin? Any fee to observe?(I expect so.)
I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.

Rob, it would definitely be possible, and it would be great to have you. While I can't answer for JJ, I won't charge you to watch, or for autographs.

In all seriousness, you'd be fine to come and observe, VIR has gotten money hungry, I'm not sure if they would try to charge a nominal fee (less than $10 I'd guess), but you could try to tell them that you were there to ride if you can up on your BMW GSA-GP.

Riding will run roughly 8:30-5pm. As Monday is the North course (2.25 miles) and Tuesday is the Full course (around 4 miles), you would see us lap much more often on Monday.

DGR is about two weeks away. I am pretty fired up for it. Putting new shoes on the Ape for my track day this week and that will be it for prepping the bike.

I haven't heard from anyone besides MattB on doing dual sport riding. Is this still of interest to anyone? If not, I won't bring my KTM. If you want to do adventure riding that can still be accommodated very easily, I just need to know. And for fun, I'll add some pictures.

I've done a fair bit of riding in the Smoky Mountains on my GS and though some of it can be a bit challenging it can be done if'n yer not a'scaert of droppin' your scooter. Having a buddy along that'll do more than just laugh at you and take photos but will actually help pick it back up is very helpful too.

On a related note, life on my GS became so much more fun and exciting when I surrendered to the notion that dirt naps are all part of the off-road experience. I've visited upon my GS every kind of biff from drops not-in-motion to a really energetic high side on a single track trail. Nothing more than scratches and rode the bike home needing no repairs every time. Chicks dig scars especially when they're on your ADV bike parked in front of the Starbucks and you'll be the envy of every poser there if you bike shows up looking like this:

I only take my GS on grass :-), Kidding aside I do enjoy taking the GS on dirt roads and ATV trails but not in single track territory I keep that for the WR.

Something about taking a 25k +/- bike off road...?
